Deafblind Awareness Week 2025 puts the focus on children and young people
For this year's Deafblind Awareness Week (23rd – 29th June), Deafblind UK is focusing on the needs of children and young people with dual sensory loss, and has launched an appeal for funds to support their services in this area.
Deafblindness in itself does not affect a child’s potential or ability to learn. However, recent studies have found that young people with deafblindness are experiencing an average attainment gap greater than a whole grade at GSCE when compared to their peers. Deafblind UK's Children and Young People's Service is designed to be a holistic approach to supporting anyone from 0 through to their 26th birthday. You can find out more about the service, which includes support for parents, schools, colleges, universities and professionals working with deafblind children and young people, here.
For more information about the services that Deafblind UK provides to people of all ages, which includes support groups, a helpline and befriending, visit their website. Sense also provides services and support to people with complex disabilities, including deafblindness. You can find out about the services that they offer, including support to people in Wales here.
