Invitation to RNIB Cymru Focus Group on Employment & Sight Loss
Senedd Cymru’s Equality and Social Justice Committee is undertaking an inquiry into the disability employment and payment gap. RNIB Cymru is running a Focus Group to get the views of people with sight loss on these topics.
As part of its work, the Committee will look at several areas including:
- What progress has been made to reduce and remove barriers faced by disabled people who want to access the job market in Wales?
- Why progress to reduce the employment and pay disability gap has been so difficult to achieve.
- What barriers continue to exist throughout society that impact on access to work.
- How effective Welsh Government actions have been in reducing barriers to employment and reducing the employment gap between disabled and non-disabled people.
- Whether disabled people are accessing apprenticeships and if any further support is needed to ensure schemes are inclusive.
- What’s needed to support disabled people, young disabled people and employers to increase participation rates?
- What actions would support those who are currently unable to work to access voluntary opportunities (which could lead to future work opportunities)?
RNIB Cymru would like people with sight loss in Wales to share your views and experiences to help the charity to inform the Committee’s work. They will work ensure that the discussion is accessible to you and can share the questions they hope to cover beforehand. This is a great opportunity to influence the Committee’s work on this important topics. There will be a Focus Group on Wednesday 31st July from 2.30pm – 4.30pm at the RNIB Cymru Office, Womanby Street, Cardiff CF10 1BR.
RNIB Cymru want to make sure everyone can contribute on the day and are aiming to keep the group to manageable numbers, so booking a space is essential. For those able to attend in the Cardiff office, travel expenses will be covered, and afternoon refreshments will be provided.
