Sensory Loss: Know your healthcare rights
A guide has been produced to help people with sensory loss understand, and make use of, their rights to accessible communication when using hospitals, GP services, ambulances and dentists surgeries in Wales.
Sensory Loss: know your healthcare rights has been produced by Sense Cymru, Action on Hearing Loss Cymru and RNIB Cymru. It follows a set of standards produced by the Welsh Government in 2013, 'The All Wales Standards for communication and information for people with sensory loss', which defined the rights of people with sensory loss under the Equality Act 2010, for example, to be given information in an accessible format.
This guide from sensory loss charities is written in very straightforward terms, and covers situations such as making an appointment, finding your way around a surgery or hospital, and receiving correspondence. It also explains how you can raise concerns.
You can find out more, and download the guide, on the Sense website.
