Emergency Protection Order (EPO)

Definition: In situations of crisis where a child needs immediate protection, under section 44 of the Children Act 1989, the local authority can acquire parental responsibility for the duration of the Order, which is up to 8 days (and may be extended to a maximum of 15 days).
