Falls Awareness Week 2026

Monday 21st September is the start of Falls Awareness Week 2026 in Wales, when Age Cymru, Care & Repair Cymru and Age Connects Wales remind people that falls are not an inevitable part of ageing, and give advice on how they can be avoided.

People with sight loss are at an increased risk of falling, but there are lots of things that can be done to reduce this risk. Top tips are:

  • Keep your home free from trip hazards and ensure rooms are well lit
  • Stay active to improve strength and balance
  • Have regular eye and hearing checks
  • Review medications that may affect balance or cause dizziness
  • Eat well and stay hydrated
  • Look after your bone health
For more information including leaflets which can be downloaded, visit the Care & Repair Cymru website. Care and Repair have agencies covering all parts of Wales, and provide help with adaptations around the home and the 'Managing Better' service, a free home visiting service offering advice and practical help for people over the age of 50 who have sight loss, hearing loss, dementia, or have had a stroke. The service for people with sight loss is provided in association with RNIB.
