Milburn Review on youth employment: Families with disabled children and young people encouraged to respond

The UK Government has announced an investigation into the causes of record unemployment and inactivity among 16 to 24 year olds in the UK and has issued a 'Call for Evidence'.

The aims of the investigation are:

  • to understand the drivers of the increase in the number of young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET), including those claiming health and disability benefits and childhood experiences
  • to investigate the root causes of this rise in economic inactivity among disabled young people and those with health conditions
  • to make recommendations for policy responses aimed at increasing opportunities for young people
As young people with disabilities face particular problems in accessing training and the jobs market, they and their families are encouraged to provide evidence of the issues that they face.

You can find out more, including a link to the 'Call for Evidence', in a Department of Work and Pensions Press Release here. The closing date for submissions is 30th January.
