Royal Blind Children's Society's Family Practitioners in Wales

The Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC)'s Family Practitioner Service provides support across Wales focused on a family’s emotional needs, particularly at challenging times such as a new diagnosis, changes in vision, or key transitions like starting or changing schools. As a service RSBC aims to provide evidence-based interventions that build emotional resilience, improve coping skills and promote positive parenting.

Family Practitioners can offer targeted support directly to children and young people, aged 0-25 with a vision impairment as well as any member of the immediate family who might also be impacted by the diagnosis. By working in partnership with parents and carers as well as other professionals within the family network, they aim to keep the child or young person central to everybody’s involvement. This support may be short or long term, online or over the phone, during the school day or after school on a laptop at home until 5pm. They aim to support children, young people and their families to thrive.
