Sense 'Virtual Buddy' service for disabled people
Sense runs a free 'Virtual Buddy' service for disabled people aged 5 years and over in the UK. The service will match you with someone of a similar age who has common interests, for a weekly chat (via phone, online etc).
It works by matching individuals up with a volunteer buddy for a weekly telephone or videocall, and if you don't have the appropriate technology, Sense can provide the equipment you need. It’s ideal for anyone facing social isolation and/or loneliness. It’s a really person-centred service, some of the pairs keep their calls to a social chat whilst others like to partake in activities such as baking or playing music together. It’s surprising the ideas that the buddies come up with! Volunteer virtual buddies (aged 16 years or over) are also needed.
You can find out more about the service, including a full list of questions, and how to apply for a buddy or to become one yourself, here, or send an email to Virtual.Buddying@sense.org.uk.
