Hi Vis Fortnight 2023 celebrates accessible reading in libraries
Hi Vis Fortnight is the event that aims to celebrate all things related to accessible libraries and reading, and to raise awareness about the services that are on offer for people with a vision or print impairment. This year's event takes place from 1st to 14th June.
The theme for this year is the cost of living, and the great choice of freely accessible provision, support, and content that is available, so that there is no need to ‘break the bank’ to get access to accessible reading. You can find out more about the event on the Reading Sight website.
In North Wales, Vision Support is joining Aura Libraries to let people with sight loss know about the resources available and the following events have been arranged:
- There will be a Digital Drop-in on Tuesday 6th June from 10am to 12 am at Deeside Library, and from 1 pm to 3 pm at Flint Library with a demonstration of equipment.
- On Thursday 8th June, the Mobile Unit will be at Deeside Library.
- On Tuesday 13th June at 10 am, the Shared Reading Friends Group invite you to join them at Mold Library for an informal chat about reading and to share useful tips.
Aura Libraries has branches in Broughton, Buckley, Connah’s Quay, Deeside, Flint, Holywell and Mold, and has a range of large print and audio books. Find out more on their website.
At Swansea Central Library on 6th June, from 11 am to 12 noon, Susan from Sight Life will be giving a talk on the support that the charity offers to people with sight loss.
At Townhill Library in Swansea at 10 am on 12th June, there's an opportunity to hear what support at Home Healthcare can offer to people with Sight Loss.
During Hi Vis Fortnight, follow #HiVis2023 for the latest news. If any other libraries in Wales are holding events, let us know and we will spread the word.
