Timms Review of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) finds it is “not fit for purpose”
The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has published an Interim Report as part of the review into PIP carried out by Sir Stephen Timms, Minister for Social Security and Disability. The report has revealed deep-rooted problems in the design and delivery of PIP with the assessment described as dehumanising and stressful, and the findings will inform recommendations for reform due this autumn.
The report has been broadly welcomed by disability organisations, although they have stressed the need for continued engagement with disabled people as the review moves into its next phase. You can find out more and read the full review on the UK Government website. Responses to the report have been given by RNIB and Sense.
