RNIB's Platform for Change report highlights the barriers faced by blind people when travelling by rail

A new report from RNIB describes the barriers faced by blind and partially sighted people when trying to use the UK's rail services and calls for change. 'Platform for Change: Making rail journeys more accessible for people with sight loss' describes problems such as an unreliable passenger assist service, inaccessible ticket booking, inaccessible information for train departures, platforms and destinations, inaccessible directions to facilities on board, and danger from gaps between platforms and trains.

The findings are based on an online survey and two focus groups, covering around 1,200 people, with 37% saying they aren’t able to make all the journeys by train that they want or need to. The report calls for the UK Government, devolved administrations, transport providers and companies to ensure accessibility is at the heart of the development of the new Great British Railways.
