Opportunity to help vision research

Do you want to help shape the future of eye care services? The Centre for Vision Research at Cardiff University is looking for three more individuals to join their patient and public involvement group.

The Centre is dedicated to improving health and care services for people who use eye care services or live with sight problems and believes that the voices of patients, carers, and the public must guide their work. The role involves:

  • Joining a group of eight public and patient members who will help us prioritise research ideas and share our findings with the public in clear and meaningful ways.
  • Attending around 4 meetings a year – 3 online and 1 in-person in Cardiff
You won’t be working alone – you’ll be supported by the Centre's Patient and Public Co-ordinator (PPI). Together, you’ll help make sure the Centre listens, learns, and acts on the views of patients, carers and the public.

The Centre is looking for applications from people with experience of eye care services or sight problems, as well as those with an interest in improving health and care services. You don’t need research experience – just a willingness to share your perspective, listen to others, and work as part of a team. They are are particularly seeking:

  • Individuals from West, Mid and North Wales
  • individuals with vision impairment and/or using hospital eye services
  • a relative/carer of someone with vision impairment
This is a voluntary position and we are able to pay any expenses incurred (e.g. travel to Cardiff once a year) and any carer costs incurred. Induction and training will be provided. The position is available for a two-year term with the potential to renew. Please email Claire Nollett at nollettcl@cardiff.ac.uk with any questions or to register your interest by 31st December 2025.
