RNIB Cymru report finds bus services are failing blind and partially sighted passengers in Wales
'All aboard? The challenges faced by blind and partially sighted bus users in Wales', a new report from RNIB Cymru, finds that just one in ten people with sight loss were able to make all of the journeys they want or need to by bus. Nearly half find making familiar bus journeys either fairly or very difficult and this rose to nearly nine in ten for unfamiliar journeys.
Problems were found at every stage of the journey: planning, getting to the bus stop, on board accessibility and the behaviour of bus drivers and other passengers. The report makes a range of recommendations for action by Welsh Government, Transport for Wales, local authorities and bus operators to make the network more inclusive. The report is based on responses to an online survey carried out by RNIB Cymru in 2024, so is likely to leave out the experience of those people with sight loss who are digitally excluded and do not use the internet.
