Support from Visual Impairment Breconshire

Visual Impairment Breconshire (VIB) provides a range of support for people with sight loss in south Powys.

Telephone Befriending Service. Every two weeks VIB’s vision impaired volunteers pick up the phone to call blind and partially sighted people who perhaps live alone or in isolated areas. It's all very informal and friendly. If you would like to be contacted by the Friendly Phone Service volunteers or simply want further information, please get in touch 02920 473 954 or email vibrecon@gmail.com.

Visual Impairment Brecon Social group (affiliated with Macular Society). VIB’s social group meets on the second Monday of the month from 10am at Brecon Town Council Offices (rear entrance), The Guildhall, Brecon Powys LD3 7AL. For more information, contact Nick on 07837 562 364.

VIB Grant Scheme. Grants are offered to anyone with a permanent and uncorrectable eye condition living in Breconshire to help pay for equipment, services, training, education, and experiences (such as holidays). Applications are welcome from vision impaired people, their families, and carers. In general, VIB will not pay for anything that should be provided by the Health Service or the Local Authority (including Schools, Colleges, and Social Services). The Welsh Low Vision Service provides many vision aids on loan, free of charge, after an assessment by an accredited optometrist. To find your nearest Low Vision Service, visit Wales Council of the Blind’s online information portal Perspectif.

VIB also provides an annual bursary to enable an individual to pursue an educational or sporting activity. This provides a cash sum of up to £500. Applications can be submitted to the Secretary.
