Diabetes UK Cymru report raises concerns about diabetic eye screening
A report by Diabetes UK Cymru has raised serious concerns about diabetes care in Wales as a result of the pandemic - including the Diabetic Eye Screening Service.
The results of a recent survey showed that 40% of people had consultations cancelled that have still not taken place, and one in three have not had contact with their diabetes team since the start of the pandemic in Spring 2020. Over half of those who responded had received no communication throughout the pandemic from Diabetic Eye Screening Wales, and of the people who had their eye screening appointments cancelled, more than half have still not have a rescheduled appointment.
Following release of the report, Diabetes UK Cymru is launching a new campaign, ‘Diabetes Is Serious’, calling on the Welsh Government to invest in diabetes care and services. You can find out more and read the full report here.
