Diversity in Local Government - National Assembly Report
TThe Equality, Local Government and Communities Committee of the National Assembly for Wales has launched a report on diversity in Local Government. The Committee found that little progress has been made in increasing the representation of people with disabilities, women, and those from the LGBTQ and BME communities in Local Government, and makes 22 recommendations on how the situation could be improved.
A key recommendation for disabled people is that, as a matter of priority, the Welsh Government establishes an Access to Elected Office fund in Wales to assist disabled individuals run for elected office. This would help disabled people with the additional costs that they incur. To find out more, and read the full report, visit the National Assembly for Wales website.
