Hi Vis Week 2022 celebrates accessible reading in libraries

'Hi Vis' is the annual event that encourages libraries to promote the availability of accessible reading formats for people with vision impairment. Hi Vis 2022 runs from 6th to 19th June.

During the event, Calibre Audio, the UK charity lending free audiobooks to anyone with a print disability, announced a new partnership with Penguin Random House UK, ensuring the publisher’s entire audio back catalogue of around 6,000 titles and future releases are freely available to Calibre’s members.

Swansea Central Library is supporting the event by running two drop-in sessions, where you can learn how to access audio books. They are on 8th June from 2 pm to 4 pm, and 15th June from 12 midday to 2 pm.

If you are a member of a Local Authority library in Wales, you can use BorrowBox to borrow audio books and ebooks. Now Henshaws has produced a short video to explain how to use the BorrowBox app if you have sight loss. You can play the video here. You can access BorrowBox from your local library (and find out how to become a member if you have not already joined) on the Libraries Wales website. This service is free of charge.

The Reading Sight website has information about library services specifically for people with sight loss.
