Moorfields patient with AMD receives bionic eye
An 88 year-old patient with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has been able to detect signals in her blind left eye thanks to a revolutionary new implant.
The patient received this new device at Moorfields Eye Hospital as part of a Europe-wide clinical trial. It offers the hope of partially restored vision for people with geographic atrophy, the most common form of dry AMD. You can find out more about this development, including a list of questions and answers on the implications, on the Macular Society website.
