Social Distancing tools

Since COVID-19 there has been a new focus on the need to maintain social distancing. While the public has made great efforts at this, as with all things that require ongoing conscious efforts, people get tired. This coupled with increased anxiety of many who feel vulnerable and the virus still being present in our communities has caused a number of groups explore the concept of polite prompting of others by a means of self-identifying with a badge or similar. Both RNIB and the Bevan Foundation have designed items that individuals can wear or carry to request that social distancing is observed..

RNIB has worked with the Cabinet Office to create the ‘Please give me space’ social distancing indicator. It is for use by anyone who finds it difficult to socially distance or who is anxious about people getting too close, which means you can avoid having to disclose the specific reason why people need to keep their distance. A range of items, designed in association with the Sunflower Lanyard scheme, are now available here.

'Distance Aware' is an NHS initiative that has been established to enable individuals and organisations to politely prompt ongoing distancing and respect of individual social space. The scheme has been formally endorsed by the Welsh Government. The symbol can be accessed and downloaded via the Bevan Commission website.
