'Little Amber' scheme helps babies and young children engage with music

The Amber Trust is a UK charity which was set up to help vision impaired children with a talent, or love for, music. Their 'Little Amber' service provides parents and professionals of vision impaired babies and children aged 0 - 5 years with free online resources to help them use music to engage with them. Families on the scheme receive two-hour music sessions four times a year from a trained music practitioner, plus a deck of specially designed activity cards and a set of starter percussion instruments.

There are music practitioners available to work with families in Wales. You can watch a video showing how the sessions help a young child have fun, make music and communicate, click here. The resources can be viewed online or downloaded from the Little Amber section of the website.

The Amber Trust also has an Amber Plus scheme which supports vision impaired children aged 5 to 18 years, and provides grants which can be used to fund music-related activities such as lessons, purchase of instruments and music therapy sessions.
