New treatments for glaucoma and AMD trialled

New treatments for glaucoma and wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are being trialled.

The Macular Society has reported that Genetech (Roche) is trialling a small, refillable eye implant, which means patients with wet AMD can go several months without needing to visit their ophthalmologist. Visit their website for more details.

Glaucoma patients at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital are trialling a new adjustable surgical implant that drains excess eye fluid that is caused by the condition. A report in Optometry Today has more information.
