Personal story of sight loss and Charles Bonnet Syndrome featured on BBC programme

BBC TV's 'Victoria Derbyshire' programme has produced a feature on a young woman's experience of losing her sight, and experience of visual hallucinations.

Kirsty James was diagnosed wish Stargardt's Syndrome at the age of 13, and told that she would eventually lose her sight. She subsequently experienced frightening hallucinations, and feared that she was losing her mind - until a routine appointment with a low vision specialist who told her about Charles Bonnet Syndrome.

You can find out more, and watch the programme on the BBC website.

Esme's Umbrella provides support for people affected by Charles Bonnet Syndrome, and the Macular Society provides information and support to people with Stargardt's Syndrome and other macular conditions. Kirsty is now a mentor for LOOK-UK, you can find out more about the mentoring scheme here.
