Report suggests number of children with vision impairment is rising
Research published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) has examined the number of children in Wales and England issued with a Certificate of Vision Impairment (CVI) and suggested that there has been an increase.
Researchers looked children newly-certified over the period 1999/2000 to 2014/15. Hereditary retinal dystrophies, cerebral visual impairment and nystagmus were the most common single causes of certifiable sight impairment in children in 2014/2015.
