Call to end the ‘stigma’ of albinism

Albinism is a rare genetic condition, which affects about 175 people in Wales. It limits the body's production of melanin (the pigment which gives hair, skin and eyes their colour) and can result in significant vision impairment. People with the condition in Wales claim that "negative portrayals", including in films, has a detrimental impact on the way that they are perceived.

The Albinism Fellowship works to raise awareness of the condition in the UK, although there is no specific Wales-based support. You can read more on the BBC Wales website. For more information about the Albinism Fellowship, click here.
