Importance of eye tests for people with dementia highlighted

Recent research by the College of Optometrists has revealed that the prevalence of visual impairment is higher among people with dementia, compared to the overall population. However, almost 50% of those living with dementia and VI were no longer classified as visually impaired when wearing their up-to-date spectacle prescription.

The research highlights the importance of regular sight tests for people with dementia, yet 22% of participants reported not having had a sight test in the previous two years, including 19 participants who had not been tested in the last ten years.
