People with sight loss have an increased risk of depression

New research findings issued by the Thomas Pocklington Trust show that there is a 'clear association between visual impairment and increased risk of depression', and that this is linked to the extent to which the person is able to carry out daily living activities.

Researchers found that vision impaired people feel that improvements to how depression is recognised, access to services and better use of support staff, family and carers is needed. The research was based on a literature review, and meeting with vision impaired people and the professionals and voluntary organisations that work with them.
