Wales Eye Care Service (WECS)

Definition: A new eyecare service, introduced in 2012, that is structured so that patients can be managed appropriately and effectively by optometrists in the community. The three banding structure includes Eye Health Examination Wales (EHEW), further investigation/ examinations and a follow-up service. The service is free to patients in Wales who are eligible under one of the categories for a WECS and visit an accredited optometrist.
